[Top 10 Internet challenge] Movie soundtracks

Music is a big part of most people’s lives… or so I hope. It creates meaning where there is none, mystery and romance, danger and suspence. The same goes for the music used in the movie industry, which is known as a soundtrack. That little or big thing that you hear right when the guy is about to get it or when the killer reveals himself or when a distant relative visits your favorite movie hero… that’s a soundtrack! I have been asked by Angela to produce a list of my favorite movie songs, so here is my “Top 10 Movie Soundtracks” list:

10) Thom Yorke: Analyse/ movie: The Prestige [2006]

9) Clint Mansell: Requiem for a Dream Orchestral Version/ movie: Requiem for a Dream [2000]

8) Dooley Wilson (as character “Sam”): As Time Goes By/ movie: Casablanca [1942]

7) Richard Wagner: Ride of the Valkyries/ movie: Apocalypse Now [1979]

6) Q. Lazzarus: Goodbye Horses/ movie: Silence of the lambs [1991]

5) Gary Jules: Mad World/ movie: American History X [1998]

4) Rascal Flatts: What Hurts the Most/ movie: American History X [1998]

3) Urge Overkill: Girl, You’ll Be a Woman Soon/ movie: Pulp Fiction [1994]

2) Nino Rota: Love Theme from The Godfather/ movie: The Godfather [1972]

1) Lisa Gerrard: Now We Are Free/ movie: Gladiator [2000]

Hope you liked my selections! I shall pass this along to:

  1. No pun intended, this sounds fun.

    1. It sure is fun! Glad you like it!

  2. Some great choices. I find myself favoring Ennio Morricone lately. Listen to any track from “The Mission”.

    1. Thank you! Glad you like my list! And thank you for recommending this! I’m a sucker for classical music! Besides oldies, I’ve always found this to be among my favorites. For instance, I’m a fan of everything that Pavarotti used to sing…

  3. Ilan Eshkeri did a fantastic job with scoring “Stardust.” Like Peter and the Wolf, the various characters have distinct leitmotifs, and because it’s a fantasy film, the music sounds really larger than life at times.

    1. “Stardust” is one of those movies that you love, whether you’re a kid or not… It’s the magical feel and the adventurous thrill that really get you! As for the music, I’ve only listened to “Coronation” and I loved it for being alert! Thanks for the comment!

    1. Wow! Thank you very much! Glad you like my list!

  5. thanks you for accepting the challenge! hope you enjoy it as musch as we did! I don’t know why, but I like most Clint Mansell for “The Fountain” :) you made great choices :) didnt’t knew the one from Apocalypse Now. It’s scary :P . Glad you put them in a top and that the winner is the soundtrack from “The Gladiator”!

    1. You’re welcome! Of course I enjoyed it… it’s challenging and different! I apreciate that you also enjoy the soundtrack from the movie “Gladiator”. It’s the best one in my book! Yeah, the theme from “Apocalypse Now” really is scary, especially when you know the messed up chopper scene behind it. Also, Clint Mansell has some good songs… it was only a matter of choice in order for me to like one of them… Thank you for mentioning me! I loved this challenge!

  6. American History… God, that movie made cry…

    1. I agree! It’s a very sad piece of American social history…

    2. made me cry… sorry, i guess i’m a little bit hungry :) ))

      1. Don’t worry about it :) . Thanks for the comment!
